SunDrop Bottling Co., Inc. is incorporated in the state of Tennessee. The company’s headquarters and warehouse facilities are located in Pulaski, Tennessee.
SunDrop Bottling Co., Inc. was founded in 1947 by Buford White as Nesbitt Spur Bottling Company. In 1961, the charter of the corporation was amended to change the name to SunDrop Bottling Co., Inc. reflecting the fact that brand SunDrop had become the main product of the company by this time. Today that is still the case with SunDrop representing more than 75% of the total beverage sales. The company is the third largest distributor by case volume of SunDrop beverages in the United States.
Other brands comprising the balance of soft-drink sales for the company are 7UP, Sunkist, A&W, Canada Dry, RC Cola, Diet Rite, Welch’s, Crush, and Country Time. New-age products from Arizona Tea, Fiji Water and company owned Elm Springs, Tennessee Spring Water round out the portfolio.
The SunDrop brand was developed in St. Louis, Mo., in 1949 by Charles Lazier, a salesman of beverage concentrates. Over the early years, SunDrop was known by several different and sometimes interchangeable names such as Golden Cola, Golden Girl Cola, SunDrop Golden Cola, SunDrop Cola, and Golden SunDrop Cola. It was pretty much left up to the individual bottler what he wanted to call the brand.
In 1970, Crush International acquired SunDrop and standardized its name, packaging and advertising. In 1980, Procter & Gamble Co. acquired Crush International and the SunDrop trademark. They soon began the standardization of taste in an effort to create a national brand. In 1985, P & G introduced Diet SunDrop, reformulated using aspartame instead of saccharin. Four years later, Cadbury Schweppes plc acquired Crush International.
Today, SunDrop continues under the ownership of Plano, Texas-based Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages, the largest non-cola soft drink enterprise in North America and the largest subsidiary of London-based Cadbury Schweppes plc.
In 2002, Caffeine Free Sundrop was introduced after numerous requests from loyal consumers asking for a caffeine-free version of their favorite citrus soft drink.
SunDrop Bottling Co., Inc. distributes its products in ten counties in middle Tennessee consisting of Williamson, Giles, Lincoln, Maury, Marshall, Hickman, Perry, Lewis, Lawrence, and Wayne counties.
